About Me

My name is Tanya Frank and I started my journey with dogs at sixteen years old. My parents had a toy poodle named Gina who I absolutely hated taking to the groomer because I always felt she was “shaved” and given a mustache. After many encounters with animals in my younger years, I came to the conclusion that I would never be able to cope with the emotions that come with working as a medical doctor of veterinary medicine (my first dream), so I asked Gina’s groomer for a job. I started my career as a bather and amazingly enough the owner taught me how to hand scissor Gina. Unfortunately, she sold her salon after a year of me learning under her. After countless phone calls I finally found someone else who offered their time to teach me the skills to become a dog groomer. At 23 years old, I aspired to open my own salon. Over the last 35 year I have met so many wonderful dogs and people that have become family to me. For unforeseen reasons it is time for me to slow down a bit.

Two years ago, I adopted a sweet little girl from a local shelter. I named her Taboo and later nicknamed her Boo Bear. At only nine weeks old she completely captured my heart from day one. She fit right into our family. Taboo’s first weekend with us was a nonstop adventure! She met her sister and immediately they bonded. She went boating and even swimming.

About Us

Throughout the years, I have made my own bows and bandannas for finishing touches. Recently, I received a package in the mail inside, containing embellishments for pets after grooming, along with the business card and a price list. To my horror, these are all bows that you can find on Amazon. They were just packaged under another name and sold at a much higher cost. So, I got to thinking. Our dogs deserve something special because they are special! Whether you are a groomer, veterinarian a volunteer at a shelter, or mom and dad, when you give a dog gift it makes their tails wag and feel amazing! I also want to find a way to help other dogs, specifically dogs with heart disease. Hopefully losing my Boo Bear would not be in vain and her memory and my passion to make dogs feel loved could help others, so I created Boo Bear Bowtique; with 10% of the proceeds going to study heart disease in dogs, I hope we can make a difference!

Taboo's Story

Two years ago, I adopted a sweet little girl from a local shelter. I named her Taboo and later nicknamed her Boo Bear. At only nine weeks old she completely captured my heart from day one. She fit right into our family. Taboo’s first weekend with us was a nonstop adventure! She met her sister and immediately they bonded. She went boating and even swimming. We couldn’t keep her out of the water after that day. A few weeks later, we started puppy class and swim lessons. She loves to jump in the water and I thought for sure she would be a future dock diver. Unfortunately that day never came. Five days after her first swim without a life jacket she was playing in the yard and collapsed. At only seven months old, completely lifeless, we ran her to the vet. She was gone. The only explanation was that her little heart gave out.

Our Services

Obedience classes

Pet Obedience is for puppies/dogs over six months old and is a progression from Playschool where the dogs continue their education by refining their skills and learning to do all the things they did before but with many more distractions. They also start to learn about waiting and staying skills. We continue in this class to have Play and Recall away from play sessions, and continue with our problem sessions where we will advise on any problems you may be having with your dog.

The Agility Academy

Our Agility courses are a combination of obedience skills and basic agility designed to give you and your dog the very best start in Agility. We use only positive methods of training, and the dogs learn with us through fun and play. Our instructors include some of the best handlers in the country with several of them working dogs at Kennel Club Championship level and all the instructors have had many years’ experience in Agility and worked various breeds of dogs.

Personal one-to-one Training

As mentioned briefly above, Lu also does one to one/personal training sessions which are a brilliant way to start your dog’s education. For puppies, it makes sure you start right from the beginning doing things the correct way before any bad habits develop.

The “Think Dog” Behaviour Centre

Personal /one to one behaviour counselling is another one of our strengths here at Scrambles and are a brilliant way for you learn how to help and understand why your dog reacts in the way it does, and to give you tools to correct and improve this behaviour.
